WOOD, EARTH HOOP
OAK FROM ARTELIUM’S VINEYARD, IRON
Created as part of the Artefact #6 collaboration.
Using oak from pruned and storm-felled branches, Walter created this bespoke piece in response to the vineyard. He was intrigued by the juxtaposition between the curvature of the landscape and the latticework of the vines. Wood, Earth Hoop’s circular form naturally frames the conversation between the linear vines and undulating downs.
This sculpture inspired the woodblock prints created for Artefact #6 - Barrel Aged Saignée Rosé. The labels developed out of the drawn designs Walter made for Wood, Earth Hoop. For the prints, he ‘took the design for a walk,’ seeing how many iterations he could make with a similar form. In all the woodblock prints on display the arched silhouettes remain the same, whilst the finish and compositions are variable, making each label unique.
An exhibition unveiling the sculpture, labels, interior & exterior sculptures and woodblock prints was held at the estate in May 2024.
A rare and unique expression of English Pinot Noir. Grapes harvested in 2022 were crushed and left on their skins for two days before fermentation in a single puncheon of high-toast oak, where the wine was left to age for 10-months.
A rich and indulgent style of Rosé, full of savoury red fruits, citrus peel and pipe tobacco. Crafted by Winemaker Own Elias with labels from artist Walter Bailey.
