SUSTAINABILITY

SUSTAINABLY PRODUCED IN SUSSEX

We take sustainability seriously, understanding that it’s a journey rather than a destination. We are continually reviewing and improving. Here are the actions we are currently taking.

Regenerative Steps

We are taking steps towards more regenerative vineyard practices, which focus on enhancing the natural ecosystems present in the vineyard by: minimising soil disturbance, maximising biodiversity, keeping our soil covered, and maintaining living roots. This aims to improve soil health and increase resilience in the midst of climate change. Wildlife is supported by the diversity of the surrounding headlands, woodlands and hedges.

As part of our sustainability mission we have planted over 17,000 PIWI vines. These resilient, hybrid varieties offer natural disease resistance. We also opt for using a ‘multi clean,’ a machine which cuts weeds under-vine. Rather than using palm oil based bougies for frost protection, we light bonfires at the most susceptible points, using naturally fallen wood from around the estate.

Natural Crop Protection

The majority of our packaging is fully recyclable, choosing flexi-hex over plastic bottle protection and using uncoated cardboard for our boxes. We reuse our wine-boxes, meaning that your wine might arrive in a box which shows small signs of second use. We enjoy seeing these signs of re-use, as it demonstrates the journey the box has been on.

Packaging

Our kitchen runs on an ethos of seasonal, local and minimal waste. We support other local farmers, producers and suppliers, when possible, and have our own kitchen garden and flower cutting garden to support the hospitality offering on site.
