From Vine to Table: Autumn at Artelium

Autumn is here: mornings greet you with a crisp chill, sunrises and sunsets blaze, the quality of the light shifts from shining brightness to a golden burnish. The leaves across the estate are beginning to bronze at their edges, acorns crunch underfoot, and morning shadows have become more dramatic.

The view from the top of Artelium’s East Sussex Vineyard, in Streat.

For Artelium – and all English producers – autumn is the most important time of year, as it brings with it harvest. Each golden, pink, and purple cluster of grapes holds the memory of spring’s first warmth and summer’s long, sunlit days. Within these grapes lies the story of the 2025 growing season: sweetness, acidity, and flavour, soon to be carefully crafted into a new vintage by our winemakers.

But autumn at Artelium is more than just harvest. It's a season that transforms every corner of the estate: a return to fire-side feasts, Sunday roasts & muddy vineyard walks. Our sun-drenched terrace is replaced with our contemporary tasting room, open skies with exposed beams, the heat of the sun with the warmth of our wood-burning stove. Our menu bursts with seasonal flavours such as duck, gourdes and sweetcorn, the veg harvested from our kitchen garden.

Even though summer is over there is still lots going on at Artelium this autumn.

New Evening Dining at Artelium

From October 1st, Fridays & Saturdays 18.30 - 22.00

This autumn marks the beginning of something special. Alongside our much-loved lunches, we are opening our restaurant doors on Friday and Saturday evenings. Housed in a beautifully converted barn, our restaurant blends rustic charm with modern comfort. Exposed beams, soft lighting, and a welcoming atmosphere create the perfect backdrop for enjoying thoughtfully crafted dishes. It’s a space where countryside character meets contemporary style.

Pairing seasonal plates with our wines, the evening service is designed to be both indulgent and unhurried, a way to unwind and savour the best of autumn in Sussex.

Autumnal Vineyard Tours

From October 1st, Saturdays & Sundays 12pm

Summer might be warm and lush but autumn vineyard tours, in our opinion, are some of the best. Pre-harvest (September & early October) you get to discover our vineyards at their most complete, with bunches of ripe and ready-to-pick grapes on the vines.

From mid-October the leaves begin to burnish, transforming into a range of warmth, from golden yellows to deep, fiery reds. In late October it’s as if the whole vineyard is aflame with autumn colour – especially beautiful on crisp, sunny days.

As you wander through the vines, your host will share the story of English viticulture, the rhythm of the growing cycle, and how Artelium is helping shape its future, with a pause to admire one of our striking art installations, the most recent of which is ‘Surface, Edge, Shadow,’ by Rosie Mortimer, which in turn inspired the designs for our Artefacts 11 & 12, our brand new artefact releases.

After the tour, you'll head back to our tasting room, complete with a glowing wood-burning fire: the perfect setting to savour three of our exceptional still and sparkling wines. Along the way, your host will guide you through the winemaking techniques and Sussex grapes that make our wines unique.

We warmly invite you to extend your visit with a leisurely lunch in our tasting room and restaurant, where hearty seasonal dishes offer a delicious complement to your day at Artelium.

Sunday Roasts

Every Sunday

Nothing says ‘autumn’ more than a blustery walk followed by a warming roast next to a roaring fire. Our Sunday menu features classic sides such as roast potatoes, hispi cabbage and roasted carrots, alongside a meat which changes with the seasons (currently duck and pork with crispy crackling).

Art & Conversation

Beyond the vineyard and the table, Artelium has always been a place where creativity flourishes. This season, we are thrilled to continue our series of talks on the subjects of wine, art and nature, Artelium’s three tenants.

On October the 9th, Artist Will Nash will be joining us to share insights into his work, look back on the process of designing the labels of Artefacts #4 & #5 and the story behind the bold and brilliant sculpture ‘Future’s Past’ which has such a presence on our estate.

On the 6th November we will also welcome a fascinating talk on The Art of Collecting, with managing director of Gorringes John Holmes and Amanda Gray, partner at Mishcon de Reya. John and Amanda will bring their expertise and advice in collecting both art and wine, from starting a collection from scratch to securing the right insurance.

These gatherings promise to be evenings of inspiration, conversation, and connection, inhabiting the same spirit as sharing a bottle of wine among friends.
